"Psychic Signals"

Craig has reached the point in the moderate stage that creates delusions.
He has come to me very angry about things that never occurred. He's angry at me and other people because we are sending "bad messages" about him and he knows this because he receives "psychic signals" about them. When I calmly explain to him that it is the Alzheimer's that is making stories up in his brain, he is receptive and understands. But he also feels very confused as he says it is all so real to him.

This morning I found him crying downstairs. I asked him what was the matter? He said he never wants to hurt me. I asked him if he had thoughts about that. He said "No, but I just never want to hurt you and I'm afraid about it." I reassured him and calmed down.

Tonight about a half hour after he went to bed, he got up and was clearly upset. I asked him what was wrong. He asked me if I was really going to divorce him. Hah! "You're not getting rid of me that easily!" I told him. "You are stuck with this cranky, old woman to the end!" He laughed and was very relieved and able to go back to bed.

Watching him, I couldn't imagine going through this. He is in and out of these episodes several times a day now. I spoke with a lady who helps facilitate his Brain Fitness Club at the Senior Center. She said that these episodes tend to fade in and out and hopefully this will fade out soon. He's such a good man...the best husband.

Merry! Merry! Everyone!
