A few days ago Craig made this statement to me. I asked him what he was referring to. He said "whenever we get together with others, everyone treats me like I'm an idiot. They all think I'm stupid." Unfortunately this can be true. We are uncomfortable with what we don't understand. Alzheimer's affects everyone differently.
What I can tell you is that Craig may have lost some cognition, memories and his ability to articulate; but his brain still works. It may not send the correct signals to the correct connections and he becomes confused; but the rest of it is still functioning just fine.
When you visit with my adorable husband, please keep in mind he is still an intelligent man. Know that his communication skills aren't as quick as they once were, but his mind is.
Please just relax and treat him the way you would want to be treated.
