I just completed Barry Petersen's book, "Jan's Story".
While I am not of the mindset that Barry and others embrace in Jan's latter stage; I understand and hold no judgement. No one should judge him. Never judge a caregiver. Unless you have truly walked in those shoes for a year or more, I'm sorry, but you can not judge. The immense inner turmoil he had to have gone through to get to that point I'm sure was nothing less than pure hell.
The struggles Barry illustrate really hit home. I shed many tears of connection while reading their story. Early Onset Alzheimer's has a completely different set of issues than Late Onset (after 65). Alzheimer's may be the same disease, but the age difference creates a new set of issues.
I always find it interesting to find out how the demon of Alzheimer's strikes victims in different ways. So many similarities between Craig and Jan and some differences; yet equally as destructive to all of us.
