I stole this Facebook post from our love-filled friend Kjersten's status Sunday:
"Today my sweet Vi passed away at the nursing home. I got to spend some time with her this afternoon giving her kisses and holding her hands...and she just looked like she was going. I've learned a lot about the dying process because of all of my time spent here. I do not deal well with death and dying. Tonight I left and was sitting in my car in the parking lot. Something told me to go kiss Vi goodnight...I got to her room, sat down on the bed with her and noticed that her fingers were purple. I felt for a pulse on her wrist and found nothing. Then I put my head to her chest and she was not breathing. I closed her eyes with my fingers, prayed over her and then kissed her one last time before I went and got the nurse. I couldn't talk I was crying so hard. Vi, I will miss your sweet hugs and kisses. You always made my bad day better. I hope you are enjoying paradise. I will see you soon!"
This is the kind of person Kjersten is. She has a gift. She's very intuitive and filled with love. What a blessing she is to every resident there. Kjersten is absolutely right. Vi could always make your bad day better. She always had the sweetest hugs for you. You couldn't understand a mumbled word she said, but what a gentle soul she had. I sat with her awhile too. Vi looked me in the eyes, lifted my hands to her mouth and kissed my fingers. I had the overwhelming feeling she was saying goodbye to me. Her family came to visit a bit later and told me that she didn't have much time left........little did we all know it would only be a few short hours later. I really missed my Vi fix today. The lack of her presence echoed through the halls for me. Love you Vi, I will miss you here and look forward to seeing you in Paradise.
You really fall in love with the other residents. You just can't help it. They become your extended family. And their families too. God bless you all my new "family". We're in it together and I thank God for your support and hope I am supporting you as much as you are supporting me. Love you! XOXO!
Today as I was reading Craig the news off of our iPad I read about the Mariner's trade of Ichiro, Craig's response was one of moderate interest: "oh really?"
When I told him J.P. Patches died, his head quickly whipped around at me and with a look of complete surprise overwhelmed his face he said, "WHAT?! He did?" I really wish I could've captured that expression. It was truly priceless.
