Today was Craig's first day of day care at Rosewood Courte. He did okay today, but of course he thought I was leaving him to live there. He had tears in his eyes as I left....talk about ripping my heart out.
When I went to pick him up they told me that he kept telling them that he didn’t need to be there, but he did well and conversed with those that could and walked around outside, and walked the employees dogs in the yard. Of course he is not as advanced as the others are, he said a lot them just slept most of the day. He’s hoping they get some exercise equipment so he has more to do, which they mentioned they may do. But there are some that can hold a good conversation, like the gentleman who used to be a brain surgeon. He likes to tease everyone and make them laugh.
I’m going to take Craig back tomorrow and then try out Weds, Thurs and Fridays starting next week. This Friday he has an old college roommate in town that wants to meet up for lunch. Plus he has his Brain Fitness on Tuesdays at the Senior Center.
It will be wonderful to have some freedom and know that he is being well cared for by those highly trained in dementia care, busy, and not have to worry 24/7.
