Clear Day

Craig had a wonderful day today. His mind was clearer than usual. A family member told me that this morning on his way to breakfast he saw the cleaning cart and a nurse that were going to collide. Craig yelled "watch it!" in warning. Seriously? Craig? That's something Craig would do.......but his Alzheimer's? Not recently.

Then during my time with Craig today, he told me he wanted me to leave because he didn't want me to suffer. He was clearly upset. I just stared at him in awe for a moment while the double shock of his statement sunk in. First of all, Craig got out a long intelligible sentence with clear intent. Second the meaning impacted me with a lot of pain - for him. I understood that he was trying to protect me from his pain; seriously? Craig w/Alzheimer's? God bless his beautiful heart! Just makes you want to cry, doesn't it?
Looking him straight in the eye I said, "No Hon, I'm not going anywhere. I am happy when I am with you."
Craig's response was one of his heartwarming, make me weak in the knees smiles.

Thank you Jesus for such a day as this. Thank you for Craig. What a man!
